The development of an effective reimbursement strategy inclusive of dossiers containing the appropriate supporting peer-reviewed publications is paramount to obtaining a positive coverage decision. The publication strategy should follow the ACCE model which takes its name from the four main criteria for evaluating a molecular diagnostic test — analytic validity, clinical validity, clinical utility, and associated ethical, legal and social implications. Credible scientific publications and journal articles should be used to further communicate the product’s value messages while demonstrating safety and efficacy. A key hurdle for those currently working in diagnostic reimbursement is determining which stakeholders, including payors, laboratories and accountable care organizations (ACOs), are actively reviewing these articles and the role in which these publications play in the overall determination process.
- Setting up the retrospective and prospective studies for the various elements of the ACCE model
- Publication strategy for the data generated
- Use of national or local data for international reimbursement
